The Childs Developmental Synchronized DVD

dvd_animals.jpg

This DVD comes with a plush doll that interacts with the content on-screen by an electronic signal that communicates wirelessly with the doll. Seriously, do babies need additional stimulis while watching tv? The DVD, developed by a noted behaviorist, claims it actually encourages babies to be "active participants instead of merely passive observers of television", though I'm not sure how a flashing, giggling and singing doll encourages them to be better "participants". There are 3 separate DVD/doll combos available for different age groups starting with 3-12 months. Now, I'm not a hardcore TV naysayer or anything, but isn't 3 months a little too young to park your baby in front of the tube with an interactive doll? No? Ok, I won't go there.

For $49.95, I'd just as well turn on Sesame Street and surround my toddler with a few toys we have lying around the house, some of which flash lights, giggle and sing.
