P'kolino Play Table

The addition of kids' furniture to your home often involves a quandary. On the one hand, you want it to be designed for your kids to enjoy, meaning it might involve garish colors, strange forms, and possibly even cartoon characters. On the other hand, your own furniture must coexist with this stuff, and you'd like at least to attempt to make it a happy combination. Fortunately, Babson MBA classmates J.B. Schneider and Antonio Turco-Rivas felt this way too, and they went out and enlisted the help of faculty and students at RISD to create designs that were fun, educational, and aesthetically pleasing too. Then they created a company called P'kolino, a variant of piccolino, Italian for "little one."
Their first product was the P'kolino Play Table (above), $989 direct. The main piece is maple, and the foam parts are covered in vinyl. The table can be reconfigured in various fun ways. While you're at it, also check out the Play Tower stackable storage ottomans, $459 and pretty cool.

Hmmm. I can see that in a daycare/playzone but not in my children's room. I have to say that when I first saw the picture, I thought it was a building set, like lego, and I think those pieces would be very hard for me to resist buying if that were the case! I hope they consider making a compact play set like that (doll house?).
