Sleepy

Okay, I've been reading through the Sleepy site for about 15 minutes and it's still a mystery to me how it works. Sleepy, like the Dream Mover and the Lullabub, is a device that will auto-rock your crib, bouncy chair, etc., but the big difference being that Sleepy does not require electric power or batteries.
"The Sleepy system comprises of 4 cylindrical discs which house a high tech rocking system. This system corresponds to the principal functions and physical properties of a gravitational pendulum. This creates the effect of the cot being suspended from short ropes, and able to swing on all planes and in any direction...The Sleepy Swing System is very sensitive and it is the baby's movements and respiratory activity in the cot that power and dictate the frequency of the swing."
Ok, got that...so you put thes disks under the cribs...but how does it work? Are these things springs? Can the crib ever roll off if the baby moves around too much and rocks it off the disks?

I'm an informercial geek, always buying stuff that looks cool on TV. This Sleepy system seemed like it could easily be an informercial product (although much more expensive than most as-seen-on-TV products), so I knew I had to have it. First, I emailed the company to make sure they would ship it to me in Los Angeles (the website is unclear about whether they ship outside of the UK). After not getting a response, I decided just to use the website and order one anyway. That got their attention. With the currency conversion rate, the system cost me about $290.00 US. Then I paid an extra $30 for shipping to Los Angeles. Expensive? Yes, without a doubt. Is it worth it anyway? Well, I know some people who would be willing to much more than $300 if only their child would sleep better at night. So it is a personal decision, of course. Anway, it took about 3 weeks to get here from the UK. When it arrived, I was impressed by the amazing packaging -- which I'm sure adds to the cost of the product. It comes in a metal cylindrical container with raised artwork, and each disc is wrapped in its own little cotton drawstring bag. If they ever want to break into the US market, they'll have to cheapen the packaging, I'm sure. My wife and I put one disc under each leg of the little one's crib, and it works as advertised. I can make the crib rock by using only one finger to jostle the crib lightly. Whenever our little guy moves around in the crib, it rocks slightly. It seems sturdy and I am not worried about the crib sliding off of the discs. (It is kept on by velcro and the weight of the crib itself pressing on the discs.) So far, I think the Sleepy is a well-made, quality product. The company's website has a video that demonstrates how the product works. I can't vouch for how well it soothes our baby, as he is only 2 weeks old and therefore we have not been using the crib very much at all. After the trouble I went through to get it, I hope the little guy likes it. In any case, it is pretty cool even though I know I am in the minority of people who'd pay $300 for it. Now our crib works as a rocker!
