Faux fireflies jar

HA7432.jpg

There's no doubt that summers in NY can sometimes be a drag, what with the uncomfortable humidity and heat, but no matter how much I may complain about it, I've always looked back fondly at my childhood summers and remember 3 things: the loud, cyclical buzzing of cicadas, the dramatic lightning and thunder storms that signal a change in the air and lift away the humidty, and the glow of fireflies. I've lived elsewhere for a few years on the West Coast and it never really felt like summer without these things.

We didn't really trap fireflies in jars too often (seemed pretty mean), but we did love to chase and catch them as they flickered in our cupped hands. If you've never experienced just how cool fireflies are (and I was SHOCKED that they didn't live in the Pacific Northwest!), these faux fireflies in a jar are pretty fun. They don't in any way substitute for the real thing, but may add a little magic to your summer nights.

Available at Signals.
