Music Box

312SCAmusicBOxm.jpg

If I had an extra $195 to spend I would totally get this music box. Music boxes were always magical, and even though as an adult I understand how they work now, they still haven't lost their charm. I know my kid would enjoy it too since she tends to love anything that makes music or sounds. This one comes with several pre-punched melodies, but it also comes with a hole punch and blank strips so that you can make your own scores. Since we're a household of former composers and musicians (mostly in college, anyway), I think we'd really get into this and I can't think of a more fun way to teach cause and effect, rudimentary musical composition (for a 2 year old, ha!) and just a chance to make pretty sounds.

Available at Kid O.
