Stokke Keep Complete

keepcomplete.jpg

Who knew Stokke made wall units for kids? They look a bit Ikea-ish (without that Ikea pricetag) so I would hope that the quality is better. You can buy components separately, but the Keep Complete let's you configure and expand storage needs as your kids grow. Wardrobes and shelves help organize your stuff and frosted doors can help keep the clutter look clean.

I'm not into the wall unit look, but I'm so sick of the various mismatched boxes and containers that barely hold the toys in the toddler's room these days, plus I want something more permanent like a piece of furniture that she can't empty and move out of her room as she sometimes does with these containers. As I'm planning her room on a limited budget, I'm not finding many affordable, but attractive storage options, so I'm guessing I'm going to need to spend a little more money.

The Keep Complete is $1299 for all the components shown, which in my estimate is about 40% more than an Ikea equivalent. How do I know? Despite my intentions of keeping our apartment as Ikea free as possible, I just bought a wardrobe for our closetless office which will be the baby's room. The doors are frosted glass though, keeping the birch veneer to a minimum (I think the birch veneers are the lesser of all evils, but it's still so fake looking). It's hard to tell if this is solid wood or veneers over particle board, but then again, I am pretty shocked at Pottery barn Kids furniture prices - overpriced for wood veneers on most items, plus shipping costs are killer. Grrrr.

Available at Mini Jake.
