Children's EarPlanes

Having flown with my children quite a bit I remember being worried about their little ears hurting due to pressure changes during take offs and landings. The change in cabin pressure can be rapid which causes a lot of pain if the ear passage doesn’t clear properly. Some kids and adults are just more susceptible than others due to the size of their eustachian tubes. Being sick doesn’t help either. I have flown with a cold and the pain is almost unbearable. The EarPlanes are a solution offered by doctors to help normalize pressure in the ear as changes in cabin pressure occur. The earplugs are made of soft silicon on the outside with a special filter inside which acts as a regulator.

The EarPlanes were developed by Cirrus Healthcare Products LLC in conjunction with the House Ear Institute in Los Angeles and tested by Navy pilots. The Children’s EarPlanes are sized for kids ages 1-11 and can be used twice before being discarded. Another added benefit is the reduction in cabin noise. Almost 20 decibels worth of background noise is eliminated making a quieter environment for sleeping. EarPlanes are not recommended in the event of severe sinus congestion (completely blocked Eustachian tubes).

earplanes are the best - i used them when i had a head cold and i never felt any pain at all, whereas usually, even on a sick-free day, i'm in almost unbearable pain with all the flight attendants looking aghast at me.
