A sling on a coat?

papoose coat.jpg

When we take our babies anywhere I much prefer slings to any other form of transportation. They're easier on my back and I like to keep their little bodies as close to mine as possible. The only thing is slings are pretty much a warm-weather accessory. What do we do when it gets cold?

These papoose coats look nice, are warm, and allow you to keep your baby close to you even in the snow. They're good for going out or even for use as a blanket if you feel like snuggling at home. I'm all set to order one of these for my better half this winter - Kentucky can be a brutally cold state. I do wish they had a slightly more masculine design for us dads out there, although it does do my heart good to see that this is comfortable for nursing and should keep both baby and mommy comfortably covered if they're shy.

Actually, Kiddopotamus makes a great sling/Snugli/Baby Bjorn cover.

I bought one two years ago for my first child (in great faux shearling), and it worked beautifully, and held up well enough that I'm planning to use it on my second child, due in the middle of winter.

Kind of an interesting idea. I just have a kind of baggy coat, which I zip up around the pouch and kid if it's really cold.

I do the same as scott. pop the kid inside my coat. For my oldest I had an actual cape. it rocked cause it was the right material to keep warm in winter w/out being to hot in warmer months. worked great as a cover for nursing, also.
