The Empathy Belly

teencouple300.jpg

I don't think my husband needs this Empathy Belly pregnancy simulator since he pulls more than his fair share of weight around the house while I'm pregnant, but judging from some conversations I've had with some women, I'm sure a few of those expectant moms might want to strap this thing onto their husbands for a few hours. This pregnancy simulator is a weighted garment that enables the wearer to temporarily experience all the "joys" of being pregnant including: shift in one's center of gravity, lower back pain, tightness in lungs, pressure on the bladder, even fetal kicking (how? Is there a battery operated foot inside the belly?).

The Belly isn't available to the general public (it is $745 after all), but is sold for educational purposes during childbirthing classes, medical training and high schools for teen pregnancy prevention and education. Personally, I think it's a great idea to have everyone experience all the discomforts and weird bodily changes of pregnancy, but this just might be me talking right now since I'm not such a happy camper in this 100 degree heat wave!
