Baby Momento - the modern birth announcement

babymomento.jpg

Modern etiquette is so confusing. Is it ok to announce something as important as the birth of a child by text or email?

When Tabitha was born, I had been planning on designing exquisite announcement cards, but things didn’t quite work out that way. Friends and family were phoning all through the late days of my pregnancy, saying, ‘Make sure you let us know the moment anything happens. That moment, hear me? ’.

So in the end, a group email went out with a few simple photos. In the next few days, I learned the harsh truth that intricate design work and care of a newborn are not really compatible.

Next time - if there is a next time - I’m definitely going for something like these Flash-based birth announcements by Baby Momento. You get the immediacy of an email, but all the implied importance that a good design can convey.

They’ll host your greeting for up to 6 months, and with a turnaround of 1 to 3 days, the news will go out quickly enough to satisfy all your friends.
