Helvetica Wall Panel

Helvetica, the typeface, is celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2007 and lately there has been a renaissance of interest in this classic typeface, including a feature length film to be screened early next year. A feature length movie about a typeface you say? I'll probably see it, not only because I'm a designer by profession, but because It actually sounds interesting as it will document the impact of Helvetica, typography and design in our daily visual culture (and admittedly I'll probably have to wait till it comes out on DVD since, embaressingly, I haven't managed to see a single movie since before the toddler was born nearly 3 years ago. Yikes!)

So it doesn't come as any surprise that Helvetica might pop up elsewhere, like in this fantastic wall panel of numbers set in the typeface. It comes in other colors and textures like gloss red, but I love how dramatic it looks in matte white as shown above.

See it at Babygeared.

Wow, a movie devoted to Helvetica? I'm completely intrigued. I have to say, I'd be more apt to hire a babysitter and make the trip to the theater if it were about Garamond.

I once met a letterpress fanatic who named her son Caslon. She called him her 'little typeface'. Too cute.
