Things that go BUMP in the night

WARNING: this beautiful bed is only readily available in Europe! I wanted to put that right out there so, unlike me, you weren’t totally crushed by the news. I’m sorry if I already got your hopes up, but these beds are so lovely that I simply felt compelled to write about them. (And, of course, our European readers can order one right up.) But all hope is not lost for US parents. If you’re really enterprising and determined, you can arrange for courier shipment to the US. Meanwhile I’m pleading with them to ship Stateside.
But enough of the disclaimer, here’s more info.
Handcrafted in the UK, BUMP beds come either unfinished (waiting to be customized by you), or in cream or white. There are three styles of single beds as well as bunk and trundle beds, allowing for a multitude of sleeping options. For those of you who plan on putting up some kind of netting to keep your toddler from rolling out of bed, one of BUMP’s beautiful day beds with sides might be a more attractive alternative.
At £275 (about $500) for a single or day bed, plus another £160 (about $300 US) for the mattress, they aren’t cheap. But, this is one of those products for which I’d be willing to shell out.
In my opinion, BUMP's graceful lines create a simple elegance without being austere. In fact they look so cozy, I just want to snuggle right up in one. They do makes doubles, so maybe one day I can.

Hi Justine, Re: Things that go Bump in the night. I live in London and have one of these beds my daughter has just grown out of. I painted in shocking pink, but it can easily be painted any colour. You would need to get a mattress for it too. If you can find out about shipping and costs, I'd be happy to get it to you. Best regards, Anita

Hi Anita,
Thanks for the offer. Unfortuantely, right now my tiny NYC apt. will not accommodate anything more! Perhaps one of our other readers will take you up on it.
Best,
Justine

Why is it that all of the really cool baby and kids furniture is made and only available in the UK? I would love to be able to have such cool furniture for my kids rooms.

I want this bed!!! Is it still not available in the US. I have been looking endlessly for a bed that at least looks like it. Does anyone have any suggestions for a look alike???

They're still not imported to the US, but I had a friend who had a local furniture maker "recreate" one very similar that was sized to fit an Ikea mattress.
