Peek-a-boo ball

ball.jpg
I might get bored playing peek-a-boo for the twentieth time in a day, but at least this ball never will.

It's a palm-sized toy that ticks all the right boxes for me: it's a lovely colour; it's made of sustainable rubberwood; and at only £5.99, it's not going to break the bank. So it's not surprising that I threw it into my virtual basket as an impulse buy at Beaming Baby when I was shopping for organic baby toiletries. I bet they sell a lot that way!

The cheerful little colourful faces pop out of their holes as the ball rolls around, or as you roll it in your hand. My daughter's first reaction was surprise, which quickly changed to a fierce desire to catch the faces before they popped back in.

She never has worked that out and I never have managed to work out how the thing is constructed so seamlessly. Ah well, some things have to remain a mystery.

I'm not sure if this recall is still good, but... in July 2004, this toy was listed on the HearthSong website as being recalled, and they don't seem to sell it anymore....

Thanks for the heads-up, Cat. I have mailed Beaming Baby to ask if they know anything about the recall, or whether perhaps the product has been modified since then. I'll keep you posted...

Some delay, but I got a reply from Beaming Baby:

"Here at Beaming Baby, we have not been informed by our suppliers of any defects to this product. We have not had any customer complaints regarding this item, in fact the Peak A Boo ball is a good seller and our customers and their babies seem to really love it!

Perhaps Hearthsong received a faulty batch - it is possible that the wood used to make the faulty rings came from one particular peice of timber that not been correctly cured / left for long enough before being used in production etc.

I shall contact our supplier to double check from their and I would be most grateful if you would let me know if there have been any further developments at your end.

Thank you for your help, any feedback on any of our products is more than welcome."
