Speesees

It's not often that you get to help save the planet and look good doing it. Speesees is one of those rare cases where you, or at least your child, can.
In addition to making simply adorable clothes, Speesees applies fair trade practices in its manufacturing, benefiting the local community where they're made (in this case a small town in Southern India). All workers have health care, pleasant working conditions, decent hours, and make a living wage. A portion of Speesees sales also goes to support the local school. Each article is made from 100% organic cotton - making it unbelievably soft - and is printed using low-impact dyes.
But lest you think all this talk of social and ecological responsibility is a little too heavy handed for babies (I personally believe it's never too early to start.), "fun" is the first word in Speesees' motto: "fun, fair, organic." I just bought a shirt for my son that has a little goat on the front and says "kid" on the back. The chick shirt says, well, "chick," the seal pictured above says "pup," and so on. So clever! I just love all the whimsical plant and animal motifs and gorgeous colors. Turquoise and orange? Great! Chartreuse with mango? Another score. This is exactly what I had in mind for my child's wardrobe.
Rachel Pearson, the creative force behind Speesees, informed me that they are coming out with bedding and nursery decor at the end of October. Sign me up to do my part to make this world a better place!
