Qualigate - design centered childproofing!

Childproofing one’s home is one the great sacrifices stylish moms and dads make to ensure their child’s well-being. Of course, I didn’t think twice about slapping plastic knobs and covers over any possible danger zone, but it did get me thinking. Why don’t manufacturers develop something that’s safe AND attractive? I mean, someone could make a fortune!

It seems the people at Qualigate are banking on it. Designed by Indes, a company specializing “User Centered Industrial Design” (read form and function), it’s the only child safety gate I’ve seen designed with modern sensibilities in mind. And it’s functional too. The solid gate safely keeps children on one side, while the translucent middle panel allows you to keep an eye on all that’s happening. This versatile safety product can be mounted just about anywhere - from doorways to balustered stairs, with either screws, bonding or “distancers.” It also opens and closes easily with only one hand, and can be cleaned with just the swipe of a cloth. Nominated by IDNL for the best invention of the year, Qualigate meets all European safety standards.

If only they’d come up with a sexier name.
