A good sand table makes learning and play much more fun

sandtray.jpg

Here is a little known fact: I'm a very small child trapped in a man's body. Whenever we buy toys for the kids I'm always secretly delighted when it's something that I'll have fun with as well. I've always found playing with sand to be immensely calming, and when I was young I had the best sand box in the world. While I don't have the backyard that would allow me to build a sand box like I had for Luke and Ivy, the Sand Tray from Waldorf Toys is a pretty decent substitute.

Sure, you can't build castles with it, but kids can use their fingers to draw shapes and practice letters, which would be a fun way to do learning exercises away from the normal paper, pens, and pencils. Plus there is space under the glass so you can put colored paper under the sand to make the table more colorful, or even add pictures of your family or things they can trace around as they play. There is a lot you can do with a sand table, even though it's a deceptively simple toy.

I do think the accessories kit is expensive at $95, you can get much cheaper alternatives at your local store for a few dollars. The table itself though? Gold.
