Küster – a design classic?

Küster high chair

The Küster highchair is certainly eye-catching. I've been visiting the Küster website and staring at it, off and on, for days now, and I still can't decide whether I like it.

Fortunately, I don't have to make a decision either way, as we have a perfectly serviceable high chair, but I am sure that some of our readers will see it and love it right away, with none of my indecisiveness.

One thing I do like about it is that it seems to have completely sidestepped 'baby' design. The choice of colours (beech, slate, cream or blue – seen above), for example, is decidedly grown-up: when did you last see a slate-coloured piece of nursery furniture? Added to that, its whole shape is quite a departure from your usual chair. And there are pleasing details like the tactile rubber studs on the tray, and a storage basket tucked at the back.

Made entirely of sustainable materials and to a strict ethical code, it ticks all the right boxes for the environmentally-aware, too. So, I'm not entirely sure why I don't love it. Let me toss it over to you: what do you make of it?
