Momoll

I am completely taken with everything about Zurich-based Momoll (yeah yeah in the Swiss German dialect for all of you linguists out there wondering, like me, what Momoll means). Anyway, the company hires the unemployed to handcraft these beautiful doll houses, stacks of apartments and pint-sized kitchens made out of slotted plywood componets in a subtle, Scandinavian color palette, the latter a reference to the founder of the company’s heritage.

The various products are completely collapsible so there’s nothing to assemble with nails or hinges or glue thereby giving full reign to kids wanting to put their toy together or take it apart. A parent’s dream too—this idea of, say, a fully storable doll house. Momoll is working on furniture for kids using these same concepts and their toys will soon be distributed in the US in stores like Kid O and Pomme. For now, if your German’s up to speed, visit Momoll’s webiste which showcases a really cool photo portfolio. Genius!
