How I lost a deal on the Offi Perch Lounge

I posted about the Moderntots sample sale on friday and I actually managed to drag my whole family down to Dumbo to check it out (an adventure onto itself you might say). Even though I do a lot of my shopping online, I think it's sometimes absurd that we rely on our computer screens for such big and expensive purchases like furniture and gear without seeing it firsthand. There were quite a few things at the showroom that didn't quite match my expectations of what I was used to seeing onscreen- like the Perch chair from Offi.
Onscreen, it's never really impressed me...but in person, that chair is handsome. You can't really see it in photos, but it has a molded plywood frame (I'm a fan of molded plywood) and a lovely upholstered pad in a richly textured charcoal gray. The chair is wider than you'd think and the most surprising of all, it's really really comfortable. The $499 pricetag is certainly off-putting, but at 40% off? I don't know what it is about sample sales, but I always get suckered into thinking I'm getting a bargain, and so, like a switch, the chair suddenly became "affordable". But while I sat and pondered where and how the chair would look in our livingroom, a man quietly bought the chair and all of a sudden, it wasn't mine. I often belabor over shopping choices and maybe it wasn't meant to be, but sometimes you just have to be quick when you spot a sale.

What a sad story! If you're anything like me, you'll now obsess over it day and night until you eventually make the decision to buy it full-price after all!
