Quelle jolie bebe kimono

babyt_tk.jpg

I really think there is almost nothing cuter than a baby in a kimono. Perhaps this affinity is due to the fact that each summer while growing up, my aunt, who lived in Japan at the time, always brought us kimonos. We were probably the only family in my small hometown in which each member could be see on Sunday morning sporting Japanese clothes. All the robes were beautiful, but nobody looked better in them than my two brawny, blond-haired, little brothers, who were mere toddlers at the time. Apparently that image has stayed with me.

Fortunately, Japanese style has infiltrated popular culture worldwide now (as witnessed by the fact that this one is manufactured in Finland and has a French name!); and it doesn't require an aunt living abroad to procure your own kimono. My son (also a brawny, little, blond boy) has two. And if I'd seen this one a bit earlier, he might have three. Fashioned from 100% white linen with black piping, the top is both classic and serene. Yet the quirky Japanese characters on the nappy bottoms lend a more modern twist. Machine washable, it's a great look for any baby... anywhere.
