Piet Hein Eek - reclaimed furniture

piet hein eek

The trouble - and ok, the pleasure, too - of taking an interest in design is that you never feel you've made quite the right choice. You snap up a table you really like, and a couple of months later, you come across a better one. With children, the problem's compounded: it's not like you can say, well, we'll buy another crib when this one wears out. No, there's only a short window of opportunity before they grow out of cribs all together.

A nice problem to have, I admit, but when I came across Piet Hein Eek's furniture, made out of reclaimed wood, I was absolutely kicking myself for not seeing it when we were in the market for nursery furniture - and I've been kicking myself ever since. This is just so much more individual than anything we saw on the high street.

I'm trying to comfort myself by saying that this sort of faux-scruff look will only work with a pristine backdrop - and that we ain't got in my house - but, still. It may be that the only way I get to choose stuff for a new nursery, and do it right this time, is to have another baby. Hmm. So that's why people have more.

Check out their high chair. It's awesome! And a little more classic than these...
