Petit Collage

giraffe.jpg

At first glance, Lorena Siminovich’s artwork for children seems basic enough--composed images juxtaposed on wood. On closer look, however, the whimsical and colorful collages reveal an amalgamated collection of textures interspersed with references to different interests, languages and cultures found on the various kinds of papers used. I love the way Lorena has utilized the simple to reveal layers of depth in her creations which end up decorating kids’ rooms. Perfect if you ask me. Who wouldn’t want to hang a cheery image of, say, an owl's family or a mama giraffe and her baby made perhaps from scraps of old Costa Rican maps, taterred sheet music or Japanese architectural renderings on little one's bedroom wall? Each collage is a limited edition of 50 and composed of found, vintage and painted papers. New collages can be found here, on her site, or at Velocity Art and Design.
