Plum Organics

The baby is approaching 6 months and she started solids 3 weeks ago. I thought that since she was my last baby I'd hold off on the solids till she was a full 6 months, but who was I kidding? That logic didn't make any sense (did I think she'd stay a baby forever if she didn't start eating food?) and the way she opens her mouth in eager anticipation makes me feel silly for even thinking of depriving her. Solids are fun. At our house, the chef dad makes all our baby food, as he did for our first. It's probably the only time in our kids' lives that they are eating exclusively organic. When the toddler was a baby, we only ever bought 4 jars of store-bought food in total. This isn't a brag; he was very determined and diligent about it and it's his role as chef/dad/cook.

I'm happy to see that there are more options in baby food these days than when the toddler was a baby. Plum Organics, for example, is prepared from all organic ingredients, then flash frozen so you'll find it at the freezer section of stores such as Fairway and Whole Foods. The whole philosophy of the company hits close to home and is similar to the way we have approached baby food for our 2 girls. But if you don't have the time to prepare homemade baby food, Plum Organics can be a great solution and alternative to jarred varieties. It's ridiculously easy to make your own beautiful, organic food and freeze extras. Why not promote that, rather than some over-priced "baby food"?


I think (at least, indirectly) I was, when I said we make all our own baby food, but the reality is, most folks I know, don't for they're own reasons. I'm not here to judge, just offering alternatives to jarred food.
