The Dangerous Book for Boys

In a recent New York Times article that called for a return to traditional outdoor pastimes, the tome The Dangerous Book for Boys by brothers Conn Iggulden and Hal Iggulden was heralded as a "celebration of the lost arts of childhood". Such book is reputed to be especially appealing to today's fathers who are "nostalgic for a youth they never quite had as children", one spent climbing trees, building forts, playing hide-and-go-seek, making airplanes out of notebook paper. My husband grew up on the banks of the St. Lawrence river in Upstate New York and at times, I yearn for something similar for the kids. This book argues for the importance of imaginative, simple play in our era of Playstations and is certain to be a worthwhile and inspiring read. From the UK, it has been adapted for American readers (meaning cricket is out, but rugby somehow remains) and all I have to say is, don't let the great game of tag die out!
