Shampoodle's cool tracksuits

A001-breakdance.jpg

Jakob, from Shampoodle, emailed to share these cool tracksuits from their summer collection, and I have to say, they're about the coolest tracksuits I've seen. The extra long arm and leg ribbing not only gives it a certain edge and shape to the garment, but is also functional as it will grow with your child to accommodate multiple sizes.

And lucky for us, they also come in adult sizes as well, but it's limited edition.

Along with the tracksuits, the Swedish brand also offers this very lovely and almost ethereal baby bunting...again, one of the more attractive buntings I've seen.

Airplane-style trays...so practical

tray.jpg

Why are these just so perfectly appropriate for kids? Probably because they keep food separate, which for some reason my kids appreciate, and on the plate, finally. I have a few in classic white and meals at my house have somehow become scarily organized...The Taylor Sectional Trays, as they are preppily called, are currently on sale online at PB Kids.

The Baby Bath Gate

bathgate.jpg

Bathtime can be scary. In the blink of an eye any number of things can go wrong: the baby could slide and hit his or her head on the faucet, they could turn the hot water on and burn themselves, they can get a mouthful of water and drown. It can be such a fun time for you and your child but it can also be a nerve-wracking experience for all these reasons. The Baby Bath Gate is an easy to install barrier that keeps the baby away from the faucet while still letting you adjust the temperature and letting the water run through. It's a very simple and elegant solution to an everyday, but important, problem. It's $30, and you'll get some decent piece of mind out of it.

Ploesie Poesie

blanketdjuna.jpg

Quite by chance, I stumbled across the appealing Ploesie Poesie website, where a consummate cat-lover (with four of her own) runs up these delightful gift-sets. Each comes with a two-sided cat figure, made with retro fabric and fake fur, and a matching baby blanket.

You can also select a letter for the cat's tum: in the example above, the baby's name was put on the blanket, too. If you have cats of your own, they will even create lookalikes! What a lovely use for unloved pieces of fabric.

Have some fun with the Vice Versa Collection

uovoG-8231528-3.jpg
I often run across isolated pieces from Vice Versa, but I never put two and two together and realized that all these quirky goodies were from the same company. This original Italian firm seeks to combine advanced design with functionality and, clearly, a large dose of wit. It's this humor that I really appreciate, since, in my opinion, having one is a key ingredient in healthy parenting. So if you feel a little humorless these days here are a few items to inspire like the Uovo (egg) teether above - I mean, how cute is this?! The chick folds into the egg for compact travel.

And forget all those clinical looking bottles, you and baby can both have a little fun with this one.

Fishing for creative ways to make mealtime more enjoyable? Try a fish plate.

piattoG-8221527-3.jpg

Many Vice Versa items are available at Pacifier.com. Here's more....

Once you're done with your fish plate and cow bottle, wash them up with this fantasic carrot brush. Unlike other boring brushes, it's creative, it's orange!

And finally dry them off in a beautiful garden.

Be sure to look over the whole collection for even more laughs.

Vintage jelly mould gift pack

re-found-jelly-mould.jpg

Some types of food preparation are just made for wee ones to enjoy, and jelly-making is indubitably one of them. The brightness of the jelly; the magic of the setting process; the dramatic moment when you remove the mould and the quivering, translucent, rococo shape appears - or doesn't, if you haven't left it quite long enough...it's easy to see why jelly and ice cream have become the centre piece of many a children's party.

if you know a youngster who hasn't yet been shown this very special process, it may be time to become a favourite uncle or auntie and bestow this vintage jelly mould kit on them. And if they are not impressed by the mould, the jelly babies will win them over.

House Plus: Whatever you want it to be

house-plus

House Plus is a kind of a kit made up of fabric pads and poles, which can be configured into not just a playhouse, but also a boat, a castle, or whatever the child can conjure up. Looking at the pictures, I imagine most children would require adult help, but in a setting like a nursery or playgroup, everyone could pitch in.

I'm a big fan of this sort of toy, because they offer maximum value. There's no getting bored of, say, a house, when it can become a boat instead. My only quibble is that I really dislike the primary blues, yellows and reds that seem to have become a default for kids' toys these days.

Litto furniture and crib sets

Litto_SillyOwl_med.jpg
photo: ArteBebe

Ah, the serendipity of online browsing... While roaming around the web recently, I chanced to find this wonderful line of crib sets from a new Southern California company, Litto. With its retro design and owl motif, this bedding is both chic and kind-friendly, aka a welcome break from the usual. Turns out though, this is just the cherry on top of an entire new line of vintage/modern kids furniture by Litto.

room3_lrg-1.jpg

The stylish Manhattan crib above (which is described as having a "European" flavor, err why then name it after a US city?...), flaunts unique Zebra wood head and foot boards, pristine white siding, and a sleek steel frame. Or for those who might prefer something with a more Eastern feel, the Lunar model (pictured with bedding above) features "oriental details." Both have toddler bed conversion kits in the works. Be sure to check out the twin bed, changing table, and shelving, as well as other bedding sets too.
