"When You Were Small" - Let Imaginations run large.

In these days of uber design and high-tech toys, sometimes it's good to remind ourselves that the best things in life are not actually “things,” but experiences… especially those shared with loved ones. And to my mind some of the best experiences come in the form of a good story. One of my fondest childhood memories is curling up with my stepfather as he read The Hobbit to me. Today some of my favorite times are those spent reading to my own son or watching my husband do the same.

When You Were Small
is a book that also celebrates these experiences. In it a little boy asks his father to tell him about when he was small. The father takes this quite literally and spins tales about his being so small that they had to bathe him in a tea pot, or how they took the toy castle out of the aquarium and made him king of it. The illustrations are classic and the narrative minimal, allowing parent and child to use their own imaginations.

So for this Father's Day I'm investing in more fond memories in the form of a good book.
