Happy 4th!

Happy 4th to all. Last year I was pregnant and headed to a rooftop BBQ with the toddler kid. This year bedtimes have become sacred for both girls so we'll most likely be staying in. We did, however, have a lovely pre-4th trip to visit a friend who will be moving to Australia in the fall. Sad, as the girls have known each other since they were 6 weeks old and have played nearly every week. It was also the first sleepover for both 3 year olds. Of course as we tucked the girls in, we were just DYING to know what they would do, so all 4 parents took turns eavesdropping (in between reminding the girls to pipe down and go to sleep).

The conversation started like this:

"you're here"
"you're here"
"you're here" (giggle giggle giggle)

(silence)

"I hope we have pancakes for breakfast. I'm really hungry for some pancakes".
"Who's going to cook them?"
"Maybe my daddy".
"I like them with banana"
"We should just go to sleep".

(silence)

"I just made a pee" (giggle giggle giggle)
"I'm not tired".

So it took an hour after some bed hopping and lots of giggling for the girls to settle down, but they did and all 4 kids/babies were asleep. Good times. 3 is an age where some kids may start to remember things from their childhood. I hope that this little trip to spend time with a good friend stays in the kid's mind - a nice memory to conjure up when she's wondering how/where her oldest friend is.
