Elmer on your wall

Elmer mural

David McKee is one of my (many) favourite children's picture book illustrators, and I have a particular soft spot for his Elmer the Patchwork Elephant. In fact, colouring in a large Elmer in Oxford city library, at about age 3, is one of my earliest and most vivid memories. When a children's book is still around a generation on (a long generation, at that - I am an older mum), that has to be a sign of something.

Now I find that I can decorate my daughter's wall with a huge Elmer. I must say, I'm really tempted to - even though it will mean the removal of a few stickers we've already placed... I don't think it's just that I'm trying to project my own childhood memories on her - honest! Even if I set all that aside, I still think that the colours and feel of the piece are stunning.

Come to think of it, why aren't more children's classic characters available at this size? I'm thinking Richard Scarry, Doctor Seuss, Where the Wild Things Are... what would you like to see?

I would completely go for being able to put Wild Things stickers on the wall, but they might not make it was far as the kids' rooms....
