Happy Halloween

It's been feeling more like Fall these days, but I don't think anyone's complaining about the unusually mild day we're having today in NYC (the 3rd mild Halloween in a row actually). The kids get to walk around in their costumes without jackets and cold weather accessories that just muck up the effect of the costume, and parents don't have to freeze their assess off while accompanying kids to the many Halloween activities that are scheduled. We walked our usual route to school today here in the Slope and saw lots of kids in costume (and some adults too, very nice) doing the same.
The kid? She's a purple crayon 'cause that's her favorite color and that way the baby can be Harold and all I have to do is put some footie jammies on her and we're done. I'm not quite ready to deal with 2 costumes yet and be creative. I actually had a bit of free time the last few weeks and so I went out and made her costume out of really nice thick wool felt, carefully appliqueing all the graphic pieces onto the purple shift dress. Yeah, I know, she does look a bit like an ad for Crayola (and if I have to explain to her what Crayola means one more time I'll go mad), but it came out pretty good. She's got a pointy hat for the top, stuffed with batting so that it's nice and pointed. It's cute watching her go around the house trying to "draw" on things with her head.
So hope you and your kids have a happy one. Be safe. Don't eat too much candy.
