A to Z With Steve Martin

Like so many celebs these days renowned comedian Steve Martin has branched into children's books. Luckily this is not some sentimental venture, and as is clear from the titled, A to Y with Bonus Letter Z, Martin has infused it with his incomparable humor. I heard about it on NPR and have just received my own personal copy in the mail. I'm happy to report that the real thing does not disappoint. Each letter is accompanied with a witty sentence scribed by Martin himself that is chock full of the featured letter's sounds. For example, E is: "Excellent Edward, exceedingly picky, ate eggs with an eel whose earwax was icky." I can see children delighting in the silliness of such a sentence. Accompanying Martin’s two-liners are excellent illustrations by acclaimed New Yorker cartoonist Roz Chast. Like the phrases, these are also saturated with images beginning with the featured letter, so kids will enjoy hours hunting. Finally, learning ABCs is fun for both children and parents alike.
