BabyC turns one today

Happy birthday BabyC! You endured your birthday banquet last weekend like a champ even though it was your bedtime - in a stiff, multi-layered traditional Korean dress, no less. True to form, you took FOREVER (unlike your more aggressive older sister) to choose between the pencil, the rice bowl, the money or the bundle of noodles in the ceremony (but you eventually chose the pencil). How is it possible that it's already been a year?? You have been the easiest baby (I mean how many people can put their baby down to sleep with no fuss, no cry? You just turn over and suck on your thumb quietly, sometimes even giving me a sleepy smile). Maybe you're just considerate and you've been trying to balance out the crazy, irrational behavior that is 3 in your older sister, but it almost makes me think I can handle having another. But no, you are our last and we're excited at the changes, growth and adventures ahead, but a little part of me is sad that the cuddly baby phase is ending. I know what's ahead of me - pretty soon you'll be sassy, rolling your eyes saying stuff like "You don't let me do anything!" or "Excuse me, I'm not talking to you, I was talking to my friend", just like your sister. But as long as you continue to give me hugs like a little teddy bear in your polka-dotted fleece footed jammies, and those open mouth kisses with a "mwah!", I'll be content to watch you grow up.
Happy birthday buddy.

Happy Birthday! She is so adorable. My baby turned one three weeks ago and I also have a three year old. However it's the 3 year old who's the mellow one and the 1 year old that is the challenge (as I type this he's using his highchair as a walker going all over the family room - oh dear).

Happy Birthday! What does each of those items symbolize (pencil, rice bowl, money, etc)? Thanks!

Hally Birthday BabyC! Can I ask you where you had her party? I have to plan one in January

Hi Jackie,
Each of the objects represent the baby's future: so the pencil means academic greatness, bundle of yarn means long life, rice and money both symbolize wealth. I guess you can throw in anything these days, however, someone threw in a mic in case BabyC decided that she wanted to be a half-asian pop star.

Laura,
We had the ceremony at the Flushing branch of Kum Kang San, where we have EVERY family event it seems. The restaurant provides everything. Good luck! Email if you have any questions.

Well of course. We spared no expense with the cheesiness. didn't you see the balloon sculptures on the Flickr set? That's sort of a new thing now.
