Modern toddler bed, with shelf

During my exploration of the toddler beds available, I've been looking at products right across the price spectrum: here's a good solid option from the cheaper end (though, might I just say, I'm still reeling at just how much children's beds can cost: way more than we paid for our perfectly delightful adult bed!).
GLTC have a number of practical beds, many with pull-out trundle sleepover beds or storage drawers, but this seemed the most stylish. As well as its basic lines, I particularly liked the addition of what they call a 'bookshelf' (but which looks like a seat to me) at the foot of the bed.
It comes in at a frankly astonishing £99, with two options for mattresses at £35 or £70: you won't do much better than that. My only misgivings are that it's solid base rather than slatted, plus, I guess that, as the name 'toddler bed' suggests, this isn't one that's going to last you into childhood and beyond: it only goes up to 22kg. And then the hunt will have to begin again.

Looking back, I wish we'd skipped the toddler bed, kept her in the crib a little bit longer, and gone straight to the twin sized bed.

We skipped the toddler bed and went straight to the twin bed for both our kids. The one we chose was Ikea's Kura, which is a pretty cool baby gadget. It's low when you have a toddler, and then you can flip it to get a low bunk bed with playspace underneath when your kid is a little older. (Ikea says 5-6, we flipped it when he was 4.)

Sonja and Jennifer: thanks for the link. Isn't it funny the way goods are branded by a company when clearly they just aren't made by them?
Amy and galdys, I think I'm with you actually. I've never 'got' the idea that a toddler might feel lost in a big bed. Our little girl spends a lot of time in our big double bed, and loves it.
I am well into the idea of a multi-functional bed, too. Desk or pull-out guest bed... hmm...

I would agree that you skip the toddler bed. We purchased a bunk bed for our toddler and his little brother from Maxtrix. The bunks can be split into two twin beds and have optional accessories like side rails and trundles. It's not the moddest design, but it's really functional/practical.
