Handmade Furniture by Scott Bergman

I was looking around Etsy the other day for nothing in particular (I like to "window" shop there a lot) and I came across this gorgeous rocking cradle by RISD graduate Scott Bergman. His furniture is "built for generations of use" and is "waiting to collect a history full of stories." I really like the idea of heirloom furniture (especially since I've got a toy box from my mom that I plan to pass down to my kids some day).

Each piece of Bergman Mountain Furniture is made to order and hand crafted of wood native to Northern Vermont, where they are based. This is reflected in the time it takes to get the piece (his is a solo operation, so - using a shipper who specializes in transporting fine furniture - it can take anywhere between one week and a couple of months) and the price (the cradle is $850, but if it eases the sticker shock at all, from the website, it sounds like this guy chops down the trees himself!).

I like the idea of heirloom furniture too – but hope the hinges of the cradle are strong enough to safely hold the weight of so many babies!

Thank you for posting something about us. I know that the cost of our furniture might seem high when compared to factory built furniture but in the world of quality handmade furniture its quite low.
To see an example of how we work you could check out a video at www.youtube.com/user/bergmanfurniture
The quality of the video isn't great but it gives you an idea of the work and love that goes into our furniture.

Let me assure you that ever piece of furniture goes through several generations of furniture before we add it to our regular portfolio. If any small detail needs to be changed it goes through another generation.
For the past three years or so we have made a new cradle for any baby born in our neighborhood and everyone has loved it.
