Counting with Wayne Thiebaud

countingwithwaynethiebald.jpg

Wayne Thiebaud is an artist I have always loved, from long before I became a parent, so I was interested to see there's a counting book based on his paintings of delicious-looking cherry pies and cakes. Makes sense, I suppose, since so many of his pictures show rows and rows of desserts, all the same while each being slightly different. It's a natural urge to count them.

Don't expect much more than numbers and simple words out of this book - but it might also give your child a cosy familiarity with one of America's great artists as he or she grows up. Or far too much mastery of words like 'cream cake' and 'hot dog' - but that's another issue.
