Bird Kite by Citizen Citizen

For those of you who take the phrase "go fly a kite" seriously, the bird kite by Citizen Citizen may be for you. The design is just downright cool, though I'm not really a fan of the black. Personally, I think kites should be bright and colorful. Designed by Patrik Fredrikson, this kite comes with a spool of nylon string and is made of durable ripcord fabric and fiberglass. Wow - they really didn't mess around when they made this avian.

Interesting looking kite, but does it fly well? That's the trouble with some great-looking kites for kids these days. The kid picks it because of its looks, then has trouble actually getting it into the air! My wife and I have seen this a number of times, at the places where we often fly our own home-made kites.
This 'Bird Kite' has quite a stylized appearance, which could mean the designers have gone for performance over realism. I wonder if it's meant to 'flap' realistically in flight? Some do, we've seen them at kite festivals - but they fly at very modest line angles!
With a little effort (working from instructions), a child and a parent can construct a kite from scratch that will out-perform many fancy shop-bought kites. On the other side of the coin, the shop ones can take a lot of punishment! And that's important to a lot of people.
Regarding the color Black vs 'bright and colorful' - black kites stand out against a pale blue sky like you wouldn't believe! So easy to spot, and definitely photogenic...
