Chief Crazy Horse Teepee

chief_crazy_horse_teepee

It may be the colours, or it could be the general design, but there's something about this kids' teepee that makes me think of the toys from my mother's era, which she preserved and shared with us when we were old enough. That rusty red colour and the appliqué cut-outs have something of the feel of the stiff old rucksacks and tents she stored in our garage all that time. Now you can have all the vintage aesthetics, but none of the mustiness, from the UK Etsy, notonthehighstreet.

It's great to see the "vintage aesthetics" of racism are being produced for an all new generation of white folks and their neo-colonial children.

Wow, that's... offensive. Very very offensive.

I'm interested to see the comments above, because - perhaps because I don't live within the US - I didn't know there was such sensitivity around the area (and the teepee is made in the UK too, so possibly neither does the maker) . Can anyone explain to me exactly where the offense lies? If it's in the idea of children playing with toys that perpetuate a cliche, well, I'd say that that also applies to a large proportion of toys. But surely a teepee is not intrinsically racist, any more than a toy igloo would be?
