Tweeting birds - a great baby gift

greenfinch.jpg

We live right up the road from a garden centre, and one time we went there, they had a big display of these chirping birds from the RSPB (a British charity for the preservation of birds). Well, it was right before Christmas, and we picked up a couple for some small babies of our acquaintance.

They were such a hit that we've kept going back, every time we need a gift for a baby. They're just about the right size for a tiny hand to grab; and the chirping (which is accurate, depending on what bird you choose, as are the markings) seems to make babies chuckle.

Yes, although they're a sound-emitting toy, it's a pleasant sound, so it doesn't annoy the parents too much. Plus, a little of the profits go to a good charity. Recommended.

Fun. Oddly I keep thinking about someone buying us a crow, or seagull or something less than pleasant sounding :)

I blame it on living in Vancouver (where crows seem to outnumber people) and our proximity to the sea.

I love these - you can also pick them up in the Kew Gardens store
