Toypography

Though the site is entirely in Japanese, it's pretty clear what a really cool toy Toypography is. Free-form shapes allow children to build the letters that spell out the name of an animal in both English and Japanese. The blocks, whose interesting curves and lines also invite kids to build any structure, flat on a surface or 3 dimensional, come in your choice of animal: bird, fish, bear, monkey, tiger horse or rabbit. I imagine it's not an easy item to purchase or ship stateside, but check out the site - it's really fun to look at and the animations caught the fancy of my kids.
