Wooden creatures from Taru Design

I don't really know what these are - and this etsy shop, tarudesign, is mostly in French - but I like these quirky wooden creatures very much.

Upside-down t-shirts

OK, either Magis had a run of wrongly-printed t-shirts at the factory and decided to make the most out of it, or... No, it makes perfect sense really. When you think about it, what child wouldn't prefer the design printed upside down so that they can see it themselves? Plus, for school tests, it'd be invaluable.
What doesn't quite make sense to me is these shirts' prices: I don't know if this is an anomaly here in the UK, but £35.50 is *really* steep. Like, five times too much too steep.
OK, I've just checked on a US site and it's even worse. Hmm, designer pieces at designer prices, I guess.

The apple magnetic board: I bit

Damn it, I thought I'd become immune to the desire to buy everything we cover on Babygadget. It helps, of course, that as my kid grows older, I don't need a lot of the baby stuff, but you know what's the killer? Stuff that's made for kids, but you secretly want for yourself.
Like this apple magnetic board. Yes, I may have just pressed 'add to basket' when I really thought all I was doing was researching for this post. Can you blame me? I'm just a sucker for bold, graphic style - oh, and I had to make sure I ordered it before all our readers do the same.

Personalized bookplates from Oiseaux

Looking for an unusual present for the baby who has everything? How about these lovely, personalized bookplates? The beautiful, vintage-style plate above is taken from a very old children's hymn book, but the folks at Oiseaux also have nearly 50 other fabulous styles for you to choose from. A match set includes 24, 3" x 3 3/4" bookplates, printed on high-quality, matte paper. Or you can also get a mixed set of blank plates. Here are some more of my favorites.

Moda Bunkbeds

I've started the search for bunk beds as we're thinking of moving our 2 girls together in the same room. Design is important obviously, but I don't have the budget to spend the kind of cash that is required to buy one of the modern design bunk beds out there. I have a few requirements as well -the bunk beds have to have storage, either under the first bunk and/or elsewhere, and the ladder needs to be flat, not sticking out as there isn't a whole lot of floor space in the room. The Moda bunkbed really does fit all the requirements I'm looking for and it looks good. It's still a bit out of my budget, but until something else comes along, I'm keeping this one bookmarked.

Mini Moderns: the peapod design

My little one loves her peas, but I don't think that's a prerequisite for appreciating the rather lovely peapod fabric on this Mini Moderns cushion (which, by the way, co-ordinates with this Moo plate set).
A quick look at the Mini Moderns mission statement informs us that they try to make designs that are both retro and modern, that appeal to both kids and adults: this would seem to be proof that they are succeeding admirably. Throw their environmentally-friendly practices into the mix, and it looks even better.

Copter Lawn Dart Set

Darts are fun, but dart boards are almost universally ugly. Not this one. It's actually a lawn dart set (Leave it to Garnet Hill to provide for more tasteful fun in the sun.) which includes a sunset orange, flying target and four tropic-hued, "copter" darts. The description says 6 and up, but my 3 year old is already experimenting with real (magnetic!) darts with some success. But if you're a real stickler for safety, you could just get this for the kid in you, until the others come of age.

Woodsman and Animal Print

I just love this sweet little Woodsman and Animal print from Oh My Cavalier. It reminds me of those classic animal tales I used to love while growing up. Hand printed from an original drawing by artist Julianna Swaney, each limited edition print is signed and dated by the artist. Jolly and charming, it's a perfect piece for any nursery.

Sprig Discovery - eco toys

Parents whose children are nuts for toy cars, diggers and lorries may sometimes despair of trying to keep their nursery eco-friendly: after all, so many toy vehicles are made halfway across the world, fabricated from materials you really don't want to think about, and tossed away as soon as a wheel comes loose - which it inevitably will.
Welcome, then, to the Sprig Discovery range. These hard-wearing toys will last through some pretty heavy-duty play; plus they're made, in Colorado, from a bio-composite material that utilises recycled wood and reclaimed plastic. No batteries here, either - action is all sparked by the natural kinetic energy of your child's play.
The handle you see above can be removed, making it suitable to last your kid from the toddler stage and many years beyond. A range of figures can also be purchased, which trigger further sounds and lights. This is one range that looks well worth exploring.
Available from stores worldwide, including Amazon.

Amy Blackwell: foxy illustrations

I don't know much about illustrator Amy Blackwell, but I know that she's on a roll lately, with exquisite foxy picture after picture coming up for offer on her Folksy and Etsy stores. Can you believe she calls these 'doodles'? I'd love to see her real work, in that case. Every single one would intrigue and delight a child, I'm sure, and with prices starting at just £5.00, you can afford a set!
