Le Train Fantome

lewisandlumiposters.jpg

I am a huge admirer of Fanja's handmade dolls. Lewis, Lumi, Babette are beautifully made and so fashionable and can be found here. I am also smitten with the results of her collaboration with Elisabeth Dunker--this Lewis and Lumi poster set now hangs in my daughters' room, much to their delight.

Tord Boontje's O-Nest

o-nest

Tord Boontje has turned out an increasing number of attractive design pieces, from lampshades to rugs to mirrors, all using his signature intricate floral cut-outs, so you may be surprised to see these seats, known as O-Nests. Their shapes are so plain, so simple.

Ah, but if we look closer, we see that they are in fact covered with a raised pattern of entwined grasses and flowers. While the pattern would be very apt for garden surroundings, the bright acid colours would also make a very elegant statement. And maybe they're not so far from that floral theme - because now I look at them, they are reminiscent, in shape and colour, of tulips.

Coral and Tusk

il_430xN.29882984.jpg

If you're looking to infuse a little "beach" into baby's summer wardrobe, you can't do much better than the cool designs of Coral and Tusk. (Actually their designs include all kinds of fantastic flora and fauna - but I'm particularly taken with the sea creatures. Must be the Cape Codder in me.) The brainchild of RISD grad Stephanie Housley, each Coral and Tusk top features embroidered originals inspired by her annual trips to India. Some are witty, others are just plain adorable. All are utterly irresistible and unique.

For a full range of work, be sure to check out Coral and Tusk's complete catalogue. Any motif can be applied to a purse, pillow, or shirt of any size. Or stitched alone on framed linen, they make for some absolutely stunning nursery decor.

Inklore Kids

il_430xN.69089030.jpg

Inklore is one of my absolute favorite Etsy shops. Sam's hand block printed towels, pillows, bags, and buckets are to die for. Yeh, I'm talking about for me (for a change)! But she does make some beautiful and really fun items for the kids as well. My favorite is this colorful, canvas growth chart. Made with antique wood block numbers, it features handy grommets for easy hanging and comes in a cool, metal keepsake box. The prints have been cured to set the ink, so this chart is actually washable! Best yet, if you move, you can take it with you. Be sure to check out Sam's other childhood creations too, including some adorable onesies and this wonderful linen tote bag created for Sam's own daughter, Sarah. The perfect example of sophisticated pink!

Are here's something for you, Mom, too.

Buclo clouds

buclo-clouds

Clouds: I never really thought of them as a theme in kids' toys and clothes, but not only could you dress your little ones in a cloud onesie, wrap them in a cloud blanket, tuck them into cloud bedding, and let them cuddle up to a stuffed cloud: you can also let them climb all over the clouds with these vinyl cloud blocks from Buclo.

I guess we all come down to earth eventually, so you might as well let your kids have their heads - and bodies, and feet - in the clouds for as long as you can.

Fluorescent fabric designs

village fabric design

For kids who are afraid of the dark, or kids who like novelty (and surely I've just about covered all kids with that latter category), how about these astonishing, and actually somewhat beautiful, fluorescent fabrics? By day, they are pleasant designs (and I especially like the 'Village' design above): by night, portions of them light up. As to whether that'd be calming or rather too exciting at bedtime, well, that may be for you to judge.

Jaya Loves Tekeko

jaya1.jpg

Don't you love these whimsical illustrations on these pillows and onesie? These certified organic accessories are from Jaya Love Tekeko, a company based out of Miami, who works with organic bamboo, organic cotton and pvc-free and phthalate-free water based inks. Pillows are stuffed with 100% natural kapok fill a seed fiber so you can feel good about giving it to your baby. I love it for it's organic shape and wonderfully illustrated characters.

The pack-up-and-take-anywhere dollshouse

ferm-dollshouse

Anyone remember this post where I was lamenting that I hadn't seen a particularly nice wallpaper before we decorated our place? Well, my troubles are over, for, look! I can live vicariously via a dollshouse, instead, with walls decorated in that very pattern.

Wonderful walls aside, I like that this can be folded and reassembled anywhere - ideal for the kind of kid (is it all of them, or just mine?) who begs to take the toy du jour along everywhere.

The price is a bit of a mystery: I see that Ferm have a US shop, but that doesn't seem to stock this piece. However, their main site lists stockists, so that's your way forward. That, or taking a cardboard box, a sample book and some glue, and making your own version. But then it won't have those stunning wallpapers.

Baby Flash Chairfix

chairfixbabypop

Mark Eley and Wakako Kishimoto, the two founders of Eley Kishimoto, apparently started out as fabric print designers, but have since branched out into the world of accessories, homewares, crockery, and even phones. Sounds like a nice career path if you can get it.

Here's one of their 'flash collaborations' with a third designer, in this case, Ben Wilson. Wilson provided the flatpack design, Eley Kishimoto the pattern (which, truth to tell, I'm not all that keen on myself - but they seem to be, as it's available on a plethora of products, from motorcycle helmets to vest tops to canvas shoes).

That said, I always like a product that shows how clearly three dimensions can be born of only two. £80.00, plus shipping, and they'll deliver worldwide.

Dresses from Amoretti Designs

fancyfreeLGblackstripe.jpg

I admit I take great pleasure in putting my girls in summer dresses. I figure I should do it while they are still little before it gets too fussy for real playground or sports activities, or - better yet - before they start asserting their own opinions of what they want to wear. I totally dig these dresses from Amoretti Designs. First of all it's not floral - not that I have anything against floral, but its always refreshing to see patterns on little girl dresses that are not all flowers and butterflies. And second, it goes up to size 12. We're at an age with our oldest daughter where many of of our favorite brands stop at size 6 and I'm starting to wonder where to shop now. This makes it a bit easier.
